Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

Cholera in Zambia: Treating the Causes, not the Symptoms (News Diggers)

Zambia’s News Diggers published an article on the recurring cholera outbreaks in the country.The article mentions recent surveys conducted by IFPRI and collaborators, which found that most vendors in Lusaka lack access to safe water, and to sanitary toilets. According to the article, poor water and sanitation infrastructure facilitate the spread of bacteria linked to cholera. Addressing these issues could help to mitigate cholera outbreaks, but also demands effective management and accountability systems, said the author.
