Global food protectionism intensifies 27 countries to set up export barriers (Epoch Times–Chinese)

June 15, 2022

Epoch Times–Chinese published an article about how the impact of poor climate and inflation, coupled with the Russian-Ukrainian war, has contributed to global food and food protectionism. Since the outbreak of the crisis, 27 countries around the world have set up food-related trade barriers, exacerbating the supply crisis in the global food market. According to IFPRI, as of the beginning of June, 27 countries around the world have implemented export bans on food supply-related products such as grains, meat, edible oils, vegetables and fruits, and fertilizers. or restrictive measures. The article goes into detail about findings from IFPRI and the data received from the IFPRI tracker, (See tool, Food & Fertilizer Export Restrictions Tracker). IFPRI warns that similar situations have occurred before. When one country bans exports, others follow suit, creating an atmosphere of panic and prices for related products continuing to soar. In its exports report, IFPRI found Russia has implemented a licensing system for sunflower oil exports from April 15 this year and will continue until the end of August this year. In terms of heat generation, the products involved account for 17 percent of the global sunflower oil market share.
