Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

US food versus fuel: a debate losing its rage (Financial Times)

IFPRI Senior Research Fellow Joseph Glauber, who previously served as the chief economist at the USDA, was quoted in a story from The Financial Times about the food vs. fuel argument surrounding corn and biofuels. Said Glauber: ““What strikes is how ethanol production has grown just when we thought it would be flat.” The story mentions that the U.S. is on the brink of an unusually large corn harvest, which will likely bolster the argument of proponents of biofuels.
